The Graduate Education and Training in Southeast Asian Studies (GETSEA) consortium was formed with the mission of enhancing graduate education in Southeast Asian studies across North America through innovation and collaboration.

The consortium was initially awarded a $275,000 grant by the Henry Luce Foundation through its Luce Initiative on Southeast Asia (LuceSEA), and a further $1 million to expand its work in 2025.
As a cross-institutional network led by the eleven leading institutions for Southeast Asia Studies in the United States, GETSEA works to expand the collaborative infrastructure between these eleven leaders in the field. Our initiatives include a virtual speaker series, specialized online mini-courses, a mentoring network, professional development workshops for graduate students, simultaneous film screenings, the creation of a framework for future shared language instruction, and more. We hope you will take advantage of the expanded curricular and networking opportunities afforded by GETSEA. If you have a question or comment for GETSEA, please get in touch with us via our contact page.
With generous funding from the Luce Foundation, the GETSEA consortium allows institutions to foster productive new connections in teaching and research, to strengthen our scholarly interactions at a crucial time for Southeast Asian studies.
You can find up-to-date information on GETSEA by following us on X (Twitter), Instagram, Bluesky or Facebook, where we also curate news and events relevant to those in Southeast Asian studies.
